need help about DDR memory and motherboard

January 21st, 2020

hi everyone can someone help me i searched on net but i am not shure can i buy DDR3 memory with 2133-2200 mhz for my pc because i dont know if my motherboard support that much mhz my motherboard is ASUS P7P55D-E LX and if i can put 2200mhz DDR3 what memory i should buy i was looking for 8gb(2x4gb) G.Skill memory i would be grateful if u can help me and tell me what memory i should buy
Answer #1
You have to OC the processor to use 2200mhz RAM, that chipset could give very steady overclocks even if you pushed its limits. It depends on your processor.

my procesor is intel i5 750 2.67ghz on how much i need to overclock him? and i will not have some problem later with overheating or smthing? i use pc only for dota2/cabal but my pc is very slow :/ now i have 4gb kingston xyperx 9905403-083.a00lf and i dont know what is the speed of that ram maybe is good ram i dont know :/
Answer #3
You Motherboard user Guide should give all the information about the RAM it supports..
You can also head to your Motherboard manufacturer website and see if the latest Bios have any new RAM support..Only update the bios if necessary..
Answer #4
I can’t see either your RAM (btw your sticks are very good) or your CPU bottlenecking dota2 (idk what cabal is) so you probably should upgrade your GPU. If you have a desktop and a decent PSU you probably only need to buy a card, if you have a laptop you can’t upgrade unfortunately. Give us full specs of your PC, use hwinfo to collect them if you don’t know them.

HDD 1:WDC WD5000aaks-00v1a0 500gb 16mb on this one is windows
HDD 2: Samsung hd103sj 1000gb 32mb
i dont know maybe is becasue of hdd? i also planing to buy one Samsung SSD 250gb with good wright/read speed maybe that will help to speed u my pc
but i wana know if new ram memory will help me or no to speed up pc?

Your ram is killing your PC performance. You don’t need the fastest ram available but 4gb are no longer what they used to be.

Maybe, but there are tons of people playing dota with far less RAM without issues. @ OP: That’s easy to check by a quick look to your task manager.
You can run dota 2 quite well with this card but definitely not on max settings, see if there’s something wrong with your video settings, try lowering them, try turning aa off if on etc. This assumes that you only experience delays when gaming. If you have noticed a general performance drop to your PC (or your settings are quite low for the games), you should look to see if there’s another problem, starting with maybe a virus hogging RAM, your PC getting hot, your HDD has issues etc. You need to test the components with appropriate programs such as Malwarebytes, Windows chkdsk or error checking tool, Memtest etc.

I admit that I should have made something clear: if you use the pc only to play dota and to browse the Internet then 4gb ram would suffice. If you plan to use heavy programs, very very heavy browsing or playing newer games then you will clearly notice the lack of performance.
Check the task manager and the temperatures under stress. In particular check if there are processes taking too much ram or cpu. For the temperatures you can use a software like speedfan. Use it when you are playing or running a benchmark. This is just to be sure that everything is working correctly.

Considering you seem to be unsure about the overclocking procedures, I would advise that you refrain from doing so as the consequences of overclocking done poorly include frying your processor, motherboard, and/or RAM. That being said, I wouldn’t expect too much of a performance increase if you upgrade from your present RAM
So, simply put, you can buy those RAM sticks, they can work with your system, but you MUST overclock (or underclock) in order for it to reach there, which can be dangerous considering you will almost certainly need to change the multiplier, clock speed, and adjust the voltages accordingly, and failure to do so properly will have consequences ranging from abrupt system crashes to dead PC components.

well i dont have that much problem when i play dota2 my probles is when i start up pc it load rly slow :/ thats why i thinked maybe is about ram or its maybe about HDD friend told me that good SSD will help me alot and i will buy one with 250gb 540 reading speed and 520 writing speed.
so what u propose me to buy a little bit beter 2x 4gb ram for my pc and what ram will be good? becasue this procesor and graphic card is ok for playing dota i dont play some havy games that i need rly good components i just wana speed up a little starting up pc when i open browser or some program

your motherboard supports 2200mhz but through enabling XMP which extreme memory profile. i dunno if my friends above meant the same thing , you dont overclock cpu for it. it is related to motherboard, you just go to bios and find XMP option at there , either enable it or choose a specific speed like 2200mhz depending on the bios options.
there is an important point if you choose a speed that your motherboard doesnt support such as 2666mhz by mistake and restart you pc with it , you may face serious problems such as endless loop of restarts which can only be solved through bios reset button on motherboard itself. if it doesnt exists , you life may turn into hell ofc modern motherboards have protection for it , i dunno if yours have.
probably you wonder what happens if you put a higher speed ram on motherboard than it supports default. it is simple , rams work on the highest speed that your motherboard supports by default which is 1600mhz for you.
for general info , dont focus on speed of a memory you even wont get %1 performance increase between 1600mhz and 2200mhz memory of same amount while gaming. focus on the amount of memory , those memory speeds are price trap. lastly , you can combine every type of memory sticks with different capacity , different speed and different latency without a problem but you cant get benefits of some technology such as dual-channel , XMP . for me none of them is crucial. there is 1 exception for memories you cant combine 2 memory with 2 different interfaces such as ddr2 and ddr3.

ty all for replies and help
@ i just look in bios and i didnt find XMP option( maybe is becasue my bios is too old?) and max speed that i could chose for ram was 1333 mhz maybe is becasue my ram working on 1333 mhz?
and what u sugest to me to buy x2 4gb ram 1600mhz or 2130-2200mhz?
Answer #13
if it is legacy bios , it would be a little harder to find it. just buy 2 4gb 1333mhz memory stick , the cheapest one. all brands have models titled as “value” , that what you should buy. if you cant find 1333 just buy 1600 , they will work at 1333 since it is the max that your motherboard supports by default. this should be the easiest way for you without dealing bios and also keeping your money in your pockets by buying cheap ram
