MW2 – steam connect error

i have been playing mw2 for a while now and at level 58 but now zero gear auto updated and i cant launch the loader
when i manually load the game it works for 2 min and gets kicked i tried with space and without space for username and its the same
a message pops up saying cannot connect with steam

its patched to 1.0.172 and i got a legit key of someone now all i need to do is reinstall the game but i dont want to lose the level58 and custom weapons status so my question is wheres the main saved area for the online stats and weapons and can i run legit without the cd key by registering it on steam ?
i dont want to do this wrong incase i lose the key i got.

Edit: i also heard that technogods are gonna be releasing some cracked servers soon

savedata is stored in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\zero gear\Server\players
just copy paste the players map in your legit game
