Modded xbox 360 question

ok, I have been a ps3 man since the beginning, but I just got a 360 from my friend, and it happened to have already been modded. Idk if it was a hard or soft root. All i know is that he can play burned games from a dvd. I cant seem to access xbox live, which i mean doesnt bother me because im happy with my ps3 gaming online. I just want to play games.
I remember on the original xbox when it was modded you can buy games and store them on your hard drive well i was wondering if there was a way i can do this with the 360. And if not is it possible if i can play games from my usb drive instead of a dvd. gratzi!

if u dont care about online then best looking at an x360key which emulates ur drive allowing u to play games via hdd.
requires your dvd key.
if u want to play online u will have to update your f/w to the newest one LT+ 3.0 out for most drives, slims f/w is currently in testing.
requires your dvd key, maybe ur friend has it if not u will need to extract the key from the drive. You will need to connect the drive to your pc via a pci card if ur onnboard sata ports are not compatible.
and does cant see to access xbox live mean u are banned when tryin to connect?

Well how do i get x360key. and i dont know if the serial number is banned, my friend said he was using it to play madden, but Every time i try and update it online it times out even though i have a strong internet connection

u buy an x360key google it, there are other similar devices as well X360dock, xk3y etc.
well as i said if u dont care about live u can use the drive emulator to play games via hdd.
if u want to play online then download the dahsboard from xbox.com and update via usb instead of xbox live, flash bk to stock before u update and then put the newest f/w on the drive.
But it maybe not updating as u may possible have a spoofed drive.
