Memory Upgrade alot of confusion !

January 22nd, 2020

hi,
i want to upgrade my ram to more6 or 8 gb.. but im alot of confused …
My Computer Configuration – intel core 2 duo E4500 2.20 ghz
Intel Desktop Board DG965RY
9400Gt Graphics card
1 TB Segeate hard disk
1 GB DDR2 zion 667 MHZ RAM
1 GB DDR2 kingston 800 MHZ RAM
1 -> i came to know that memory has to be of matching pairs .. eg:- 4gb kit of ddr2 800 mhz but i got two ram of 1 gb…. one is 667 mhz and another is 800 mhz.. and my motherboard supports total 8 gb of ram.but when i went to this site
http://support.intel.co.jp/support/motherboards/desktop/dg965ry/sb/CS-026602.htm
it show that ..
System Memory Features
The board has four DIMM sockets and support the following memory features:
* 1.8 V (only) DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
* Unbuffered, single-sided or double-sided DIMMs with the following restriction: Double-sided DIMMs with x16 organization are not supported. * 8 GB maximum total system memory using DDR2 667 or DDR2 533 DIMMs
* 4 GB maximum total system memory using DDR2 800 DIMMs
* Minimum total system memory: 512 MB
* Non-ECC DIMMs
* Serial Presence Detect
* DDR2 800, DDR2 667, or DDR2 533 MHz SDRAM DIMMs
* DDR2 800 DIMMs with SPD timings of only 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 (tCL-tRCD-tRP) so please can anyone tell me why cant i have 8 gb of ram of 800 mhz ???? 2 -> i dont know anything abt DIMM so how will i know how to put my rams because i have four slots and i want to enable dual-channel systems as it is provided……i mean i already have 1GB ddr2 ZION 667 MHZ and 1 GB ddr2 KINGSTON 800 mhz and so my only two stick remains out of four…and i want to add a 4GB kit ( 2GBx2) 800 MHZ ..so can anyone please tell me in which way i should put my RAM so to enable my dual channel.
3-> my friends told that my 667mhz ram will force 800 mhz ram to peform in slow speed so even if i remove my 667 mhz ram and put 800 mhz ram will putting 800 mhz of 6 gb ram will be good…… on my manual i found this Blue socketsDIMM 0
 Black socketsDIMM 1
Dual channel (Interleaved) modeOffers highest
throughput. Dual channel mode is enabled when the
DIMMs installed in both channels are equal in density,
speed, and latency (using DIMMs from the same
manufacturer helps to ensure that you are using matching
DIMMs). If channels A and B contain DIMMs of
different speeds, the slowest speed is used.
ok…now im having two rams stick installed and my motherboard haave 4 slots so my question is do i have to put both stick Blue socketsDIMM 0 or Black socketsDIMM 1 to enable to dual channel…
4-> it is said that windows xp 32 bit has a limit of only 4 GB of RAM is it true because someone told me that i can’t install a 64 bit os because my CPU does not support it..is that true i mean now it shows 32 BIT so i want to know can i install Vista 64 bit on my pc and one more thing if i upgrade my RAM to 6 or 8 GB will it wil effect my XP because it says it supports 4 GB so what will happen to my additional Memory please help me im alot confused and sorry i f i made u people confused….i just want best performance from my RAM…
i willl be happy if u please help me out of this situtation …. thnk u..

1. Memory doesn’t have to be patching pairs, it’s just preferred. Also you can’t have 8GB of 800Mhz RAM because you just can’t. It’s just the way your motherboard is designed.
2. You can’t add a 4GB kit of DDR2 800 if you already have memory installed. See above.
3. Memory will run at the speed of the slowest stick. In the real world it doesn’t make a huge difference so I wouldn’t worry about it. You would use both the same colour sockets for dual channel. See point 1.
4. Yes, windows XP only supports 4GB of RAM but most of the time it’s more around the 3GB mark. I’m fairly certain that your processor does support a 64-bit OS. Whether your motherboard does or not I’m not sure.

i have 4 slots of 2 gb per slots..tht makes it 8 gb total..so i know my motherboard supports 8 gb…but now i already have 1×1 gb..tht mean two RAM sticks..on my motherboard…so…it means more two slots are left..so can i fill those 2 empty RAM slots with 2×2 gb RAM ?????
and if i wil be able to do tht…tht will total my RAM to 6 GB..but xp only supports 4GB ..so what will happen to extra 2GB.??????????
please help..!!!!!!!!
Answer #3
It would be rendered useless.
Check out this link, it shows limits on ram for each Windows release.

XP seldom uses over 2GB of memory, so you will not see a big performance increase, but you will see some increase
your best option would be to discard your current memory and install the 2 2gig sticks
ok...now im having two rams stick installed and my motherboard haave 4 slots so my question is do i have to put both stick Blue socketsDIMM 0 or Black socketsDIMM 1 to enable to dual channel...
most if not all intel boards use the 2 same colored slots
get and run CPU-Z to check anything MOBO or memory related

what a waste of my 32 bit processor… esriously… i mean now i can’t use my full 8 gb of RAM? i mean seriously guys…i wanted to use atleast 6 bg of RAM but after reading limits of 32 bit OS ….sad to see tht i can put maximum upto 4 bg RAM..well thnx everyone fro replying..but i really wanted atleast to upgrade my memory upto 6 BG..well if anyone has any better idea or suggestion….please let me know…..thnx
Answer #6
upgrade to a 64 bit OS?
Answer #7
the only way to use all of your 6GBs is to upgrade to a 64B OS. i’d recommend going vista or 7, xp is mad old.. doesn’t support dx10 or anything.
and i don’t see why’d you upgrade to 6GBs of ram unless you’re looking to game.. so yeah.
Answer #8
well..thnks for all ur replies…and i want to upgrade to 6 bg of RAM because wat will i do by keeping my slots free…i mean i know my motherboard will only support DDR2…slots better to upgrade as much i can..and second thing is that price….. as DDR3 came up DDr2 market price will be sure to rise as much it can..see it is old and best tricks of IT fields..they always put their previous versions to high rates.. eg-: DDR1 . when DDR2 came out the price got higher… twice the price of DDR2 because IT fields are smart… they know that raising prices of previous version will force people to go new technologies and purchase new products… i mean those people who had DDR1 on their computer will not buy DDR1 RAM by giving twice the price more than DDR2 i mean seriously who want to buy old things by paying twice price when tht person knows that he can get new version of that product in cheap rate.half the price ….so in this old products prices get higher and the manufacturing of those automatically stops……… you see same thing gona happen in DDR2 as the coming of DDR3 and i cant spend my money in new processors like iCORE and X58 series motherboards… that will be too much.. s i thought that maximum the limit of watever i have right now………so upgrading to 6 GB of RAM i thought is good idea… because the way programs are coming up their requirement doesn’t seem to be finish and yes… i think that upgrading to 6 GB RAM won’t harm my pc.. i mean i dont know abt that… if anyone knows pls let me know because i’m really confused abt these RAM things and i really want keep my pc in fulll extent … i mean wat will be the use if i can upgrade my RAM to 8 gb but just because i don’t have much i’m not upgrading my RAM ..i hope you understand … well please don’t mind because im just giving my opinion….. I WILL LOVE TO HEAR ALL OF YOUR OPINION…. PLEASE REPLY AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ……
AND THANKS ( & ) I THINK UPGRADING TO 64 BIT OS WILL BE A GOOD IDEA…. THANKS.
