Lightest Video Converter

August 9th, 2013

What is the lightet video converter you’ve ever used?
I want something that will run quietly in the background that won’t slow own whatever I’m doing, which is usually just light browsing.
My CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 @ 2.66 Ghz each, and I’m currently using AVS Video converter. Whenever I convert a video, my computer lags to ~love~ and I have difficulty doing even the simplest of tasks.
Looking forward to any input.
Thanks.

Answer #1
avoid multiple task when you do converting on videos or musics
Answer #2
I know, that’s the most obvious choice but I simply cannot. I have a lot of work to do and I just can’t leave the computer for 30 mins while a video is converting.
If someone could just suggest one that works a little bit more subtlety, that would be brilliant.
Answer #3
Put the process in low priority.

Once I do this and close the application, would the lowered priority still take effect once it’s restarted? Or do I have to do it again?
Answer #5
Well have a look at the button and see if it is still ticked next time..
Answer #6
No you have to do it again. This ensures that you won’t forget some process on “low”, which would result in slower processing or “high”, which could cause system instability or the process intervening with others etc.
Answer #7
Alright, thanks guys. This is a good band-aid solution. But I’m still looking for a converter than runs better, if anyone can suggest any.
Answer #8
What would you like to convert?

mp4 videos to avi mostly.
Answer #10
No matter which program you use, it will use the encoders, which will use the CPU and you’ll have the same effect.
Just lower the priority and if you don’t want to change priority EVERYTIME then use a program to make it remember the last used priority. I use Prio – Process Priority Saver from here

Make sure you download the correct 32 OR 64 bit version or it will NOT work!
