Video converter

I am looking for a tool which can convert video files into different formats at high speeds and with a high quality.
When googling I often have been referred to Xilisofts video converter, which works flawlessly however it converts my .mkv files (720p ~500mb) into huge 1,2gb .mp4 files, but mp4 should be smaller shouldn�t it?

Allok Video Converter will convert MKV files to MP4 to small size and good quality

Mostly mkv files are the smallest ones when they are encoded but its not the other way around that mp4 are smallest Also it depends on your output videos resolution
