Is there a chip for PS3?

August 7th, 2016

Hi,
My question will probably sound very stupid to many people, but I didn’t hear about the PS3 for a long time, and the research I did on the internet haven’t showed any unambiguous answer. I am interested in buying PS3 but I don’t want to waste all my money on games for it (in my country they are 4 times more expensive than in the US). So, is there any chance of implanting a chip so I can play burned games? If not, is there a chance that a chip like that will be developed soon (or maybe Sony developed an invincible console…)?
If there is a chip, is it worth buying PS3 or should I wait for PS4 or something?
Thanks,
Ofir.

No, and there is no chance that a chip will be developed soon
Answer #2
No. If one was even made, it wouldn’t work a week later.
The updating system would soon ensure chips don’t work.

Yep, console piracy has become much harder since firmware updates. And It won’t be cracked for a while cause the needed blu ray players to hack it still cost to much for hackers to buy.

never say never, the xbox and wii have both been hacked and so has the psp and they get updates regularly so firmware is not the big issues, but yes when a new update comes out it usually is a headache for most but there is always a hack around it. The ps3 is still very new and so we will see a hack in due time, might be tomorrow might be 10 years from now you never know.
Just a note they do have ps2 backups running on the ps3 so that’s progress.

Xbox, PSP, Wii are a joke compared to PS3. The DVD firmware from xbox is unencrypted and was easy to hack. Wii was hacked in few months after release and PSP had a security glitch in battery, not very hard to find. Let’s see the new PSP Go!

The playstation was put through thousands of hacking tests to ensure Sony don’t lose any profit to piracy.
If a developer wanted to really rake cash and know that their game won’t be pirated, it’s the PS3 to aim at.

well you can”t say it was easy the liteon was very expensive drive to hack, the hackers spent over 50k to hack that drive, because of the tools they needed.

theres no such thing as unhackable if someone want to throw enough money at it
Answer #9
Thank you all. So I guess I have nothing to do but wait…

True, but money is the issue.
By the time the PS3 is hacked, it’ll be a last-gen console.
There has been some exploits (the *.tiff exploit, etc) but none can ‘chip’ the system yet.

again not true, some nerdy guy siting in his parents basement might be working on a hack as wee speak. These consoles will have the longest life span then any other console. You will not see another xbox or playstation until 2013. The wii on the other hand they should release a HD version. So with that said we may see a hack sooner then later.

The only chip thats out there for the ps3 is made by team infectus, but its useless for now.

The only hack you can do to a PS3 is with a hammer right through it lolz I doubt there will ever be a chip. There is a small chance someone might find a flaw in the Bluray drive firmware but i doubt it. People say if only someone tried harder and they have. Selling those modchips can generate lots of money the problem is not people having the will to do it but knowing enough to do it. Backwards engineering things isnt easy.

Backwards engineering
Reverse Engineering, my bad if this offends you, as my intention isn’t offensive.
Hm, you could say PS3 could hold the record for being the hardest console to reverse engineer. Its all thanks to IBM.
