If you are using WiFi without security, unauthorised people might use your network. This can be the source of your problem.
If you haven’t done yet, go to your Linksysconfig and use WPA(2) as security mode (harder to crack by others).

Did you update your LAN driver? If your old drivers start messing up they could be the cause of the problem. Also, do other computers on the network experience the same problem?

Answer #10
See if you can find a new suitable power supply pack for the router.
Same volts, same polarity, same plug..and try that.
Answer #11
It could probably be a configuration problem between the router and your computers. Test out your router including your modem with all the computers you have individually and see what happens. Check your router settings and configurations including your firewall and PC. If you are using ipv4 or ipv6 make sure your firewall, PC, and router is setup correctly. All computers you have that uses the router must have the same configurations.
Try disabling your software firewall including Windows XP firewall and start from the beginning.
Make sure their are no TV’s, radios, phones that are near your modem and router. Also, your router and modem should be at least 3-4 ft(needs revising) away from each other.
Make sure you have filters plugged into your phone jacks. One should be for phone and the other for your modem.
Make sure your wires are not corroded and make sure they are all clean and in good condition.
If you hardwired your computer to the router, does it still die out on you? Test that out if you haven’t done so.
Linksys WRT54G v4? What kind? It could maybe give us some ideas. Maybe you can upgrade firmwares to fix the problem.
