Internet Works then Doesnt and then works and doesnt?

August 5th, 2016

Anyways, heres my problem. I am using Comcast Cable Internet. My modem is connected directly to my computer.
My internet will work for about 4 minutes and then stop working for about 30 seconds and it repeatedly keeps doing that. At first i thought it was my modem, so i replace a brand new one today but still the problem continues.
I also tried 4 different computers.
I finally went to the basement and connected the main wire from the box out side straight to my modem ( so I know its not the splitters my basement thats causing the problem) .
I do not know what is wrong, can someone please help me.
Please help me other than telling me to contact Comcast

You will have to try a range of things to narrow down what the problem is. The information you have given us is a little broad. First off how sure are you all the settings are correctly setup on your computer. ie. computer is not set for static ip, rather dhcp. You do not have the dial up modem activated. (in IE, Tools -> internet options, -> connections tab -> no dial up connections.) That can cause it to switch back and forth. Click on LAN settings have it automatically detect. Otherwise take a look at your ip address, try a trace route to google. (Click start menu type goto RUN command. Type “cmd” hit enter) type ‘ipconfig’ in theblack box hit enter. typing tracert www.google.com will give you a traceroute. ) One your internet dies, try typing ‘ipconfig /release’ then ‘ipconfig /renew’ see if it can pull up a new IP address. Also when you have internet try doing a speedtest from a site like www.speakeasy.net/speedtest or www.speedtest.net post back some results or what you find. There isn’t any one easy fix place to check for this especially based on your description. and why haven’t you contacted Comcast or want to talk to them? The speedtest might help tell you there are too many splitters and the connection is getting to weak. just some ideas off the top of my head.

i have already said that i replace it with 4 different compputers that are working fine at my brothers house.
i even connect my modem directly to the wire in the basement so they are no splitters.
what you mean computer is not set for static ip, rather dhcp
what is dhcp?

lol
the real reason that i cant not contact them is because i have a flashed modem and it worked fine for 1 year but now its been ~ censored ~ up for like 6 months now.
i tryed the flash modem at my brothers and sisters house and it works fine. also bought a new modem and flashed it and same problem.
could it be that they found out and screwed up my network on purpose??
again i bought the modem to a lot of houses and they work fine. i even took my brothers modem that i flashed at his house and brought it to mine and same problem but the modem at his house works compeletly fine i mean like amazing speeds.

Well it’s either the connection within your house or your computer. Either try hooking up a different computer or laptop to the modem in your house or take your computer to your friends and try it. Maybe there are just too many splitters inside your house and the connection is getting bogged down.
