Install Win7 from a USB?

Dads DVD Rom drive dosnt show up, so im gonna upgrade his ~ Lovely ~ old xp sp2 to win7, am i able to on a USB drive or what?
cant upgrade xp to windows 7. . . only vista to W7. . . but you can install a fresh install of widows 7easy. . . u can read my quick easy tutorial i have a link for in my signature., And if you have any questions just ask. Pm or whatever. .
