I have now given up on MKV Movies

August 3rd, 2016

im spending hours and days trying to get this sorted.
I watch all my films on WDTV Multimedia player through my TV.
Half the films are xVid and the rest are MKV’s.
All the AVI’s are in sync but the MKV files are out of sync. They vary though. Some are out more than others. Some are fine at times, then drift off.
The MKV’s are downloads from different users on this forum.
On My PC, despite setting up KMPlayer properly and installing the recommended codecs, i.e. haali, cccp and core i think, its the same on the PC.
On my samsung omnia phone, i think they come across as ok, using core player on phone.
I see on this forum and online, there is so many users have these issues. Why is MKV doing this. BTW, picture quality on the MKV files are superb.

ok just install k-lite codec pack and you should read those flies on whatever media player you use (windows media player, nero, vlc ect) and all this does is it decodes the video and buffers it into a compatible format for your player to use
Answer #7
Zoom Media Player or VLC. Either that or the problem is with your PC.
Answer #8
can u explain the “out of sync” more precisely? if the movie starts with sync and then get off the sync its probably ur PC’s compatibility issue or if it starts without sync => u can configure ur media player to sync them..
Answer #9
Nobody seems to understand. He’s using the WDTV hardware player

But it’s strange. All reviews and comments from buyers I read on this praise it to high heavens.
Answer #10
do you have codec control with the WDTV Multimedia player the drift is more than likely caused by VBR encoding
by “core” you mean CoreAVC codec
Answer #11
Alot of people on the WDTV forums are complaining of this also, why is there a problem with this in the first place? the AVI’s are fine on this player, however it is the exact same situation on a PC. AVI’s are fine MKV’s are out of sync. No codec control, whatever firmware upgrades are available is the only control I have. Yes meant to say CoreAVC codec earlier. check this out: http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=815.0 Thanks for the replies.
Answer #12
Do you have the latest firmware installed? Cause I don’t have any problem with the WD hd tv using mkv files.
Answer #13
yes, have installed 1.02.07 upgraded to 1.02.08 and even reverted back to 1.02.03. it seems many have this problem not just me. the MKV’s were all downloaded from this forum, from different rippers and even some of my own rips. are you on ntsc or pal?
Answer #14
I’m on pal, but that doesn’t make a difference cause PAL en NTSC only apply to the screen ratio with computer files.
Answer #15
Could u put up a Rapidshare short sample of one of your MKV files and I will see if it is off sync on my end?
I would appreciate that.

well i tried 2 on my omnia using coreavc and they seemed fine. Im not saying it is the files, but if its not, then they cause a lot of hassle with compatibility.
I cannot understand why some people have this problem and some people do not.
I just wish I could one of the people who do not have this issue. If I could even get them working fine on my Laptop, then i would put it down to an issue with the WDTV player and i would be willing to wait for a fix in future firmware upgrades.
