How to speak and write English fluently?
January 23rd, 2020
I want to live at America one day so I need help from WBB users to speak and write English. I’m very weak at vocabulary but good at grammar. Any tips? or something necessary.
And one another thing, can some1 tell me about abbreviations that people used it often?
My English doesn’t sound bad, isn’t it?
Thanks in advance
Best way to improve writing skills is to read books & and for speaking, conversations in english with other people who can speal english fluently does help.
I’ve got good news for you. Your English is much better than 80% of the people on this forum. Americans don’t speak good English, but they think they do The best speakers are the English themselves, like yours truly. So don’t worry, You’ll do OK.
BTW, you should say “My English doesn’t sound bad, does it?
yeh, just practice as much as possible. if you go to an english speaking country and make an effort to get better, you can become very good at english. other people on the other hand, dont make effort and have been living in an enlish speaking country for 50 years and can still hardly speak lol
Play RPG’s with a good storylines. Thats where i learned most of my english.
And one another thing, can some

just be more active on wbb , be active on Offtopic section .. and u will see that your english will get improved by the time.
I used to improve my English playing videogames (and no, I’m not kidding). I finally did the FCE this year, so I’m hoping to get a nice mark (january 27th seems to be a long, loooong way ahead).
READ SOME NOVELS….WATCH HOLLYWOOD MOVIES…..TV SHOWS…….TALK TO YOUR FRIENDS IN ENGLISH…..
DO SOME STUDY IN ENGLISH VOCAB
{m too lazy to shut off my caps button )
Your English is excellent, there aren’t many things wrong with it. My dad learnt English by watching movies and reading books. The only way you can learn a language is to “practice” it.
Read books, go to local library and read as many books as you can Practicing it on forums is bad cuz we all have bad grammar here haha
conversations in english
Only way to fluently speak engilsh is by speaking english with people and living in an english enviromment. There are no other ways.
To write and read, well, read books.

TWO Being active on WBB will not improve your English as 80% of posts seem to be written by 5 year olds.

yeah, some people always punk us non-English speaking. But i don’t really care. I’m not gonna use it to sue some firm or anything… And i understood everything you wrote even though i could tell you did some mistakes. But like people said.- Read – play – watch- . Final Fantasy 7 was pretty much what i learned to read English from.. And too speak it i got the voices from movies. (some would say take of the subs.) but no. .. if there comes a word you don’t know. . well its kinda like a dictionary then. but good luck pal’

Sorry about that. I was feeling a bit p*ssed off then, I realize now that English may not be your first language. No hard feelings, I hope.

Once again, thanks for everyone but I have another question for you guys. Which is better ? Studying OR reading books, playing games, conversation, etc? And why?

To tell you the truth, reading books and stuff will definitely fix your grammar and basic English skills but with the whole aspect of moving to America, I would suggest you to watch US TV shows and movies because a same english sentence in UKis said in a different way and in the US it is said in the different way (again not the grammar but just the way of saying it along with the local slang)
best of luck!

your kind of right, except on a few points:
1) why only Americans? British, Aussies and many other countries speak English very well.
2)RPG’s are ok, but don’t mimic them directly in any type of conversation. modern and future based games are the better choice.
3) halo may not be the best, many of the creatures have difficulty speaking engish (arbiter and grunts are awful), but if you have xbox live, you will learn more ‘informal’ english playing online, i understand that many countries have a very solid formal and informal structure where, in english, its more of a blur.

Just read english books like American writen books ..
On another note.. I was horrible at typing when I started playing computer games I got better and better and better now I am a fast typer. People that are sport players and stuff can’t type AT ALL.. I also am active i skate board and stuff but wow..
People are stupid ( not cause they can’t read well or type well etc ) but
if someone calls you a nerd or something like that just stop and think you’ll be smarter and better than them…people said I had no life cause I played counter strike and wow ( I don’t anymore) but guess what….
Now they ask me to help the type up some of their English and other class papers and I am willing if I’m not busy as long As they are not BLANKING around…Because we are some what friends
Answer #24
we are some what friends
Yeah, we are friends in here and we are a part from WBB
And I guess there are just a little difference between US and UK English, but mainly it just the same English we spoke in here.
Answer #25
well, you can get a program like skype and start calling some of your English speaking friends and talk to them until you become more comfortable and or confident with it.
Answer #26

depends on what you like to do. . . .- if your like me. . (i ~love~ you not) If i sit with a book more than 30 minutes …. i fall asleep. Ive never read a whole book. No lie there. But i love games and movies. So thats pretty much where i got my english from. You learn more when you enjoy it… You enjoy reading. .. Then read away- – Even writting can teach you since you have to think alot and search through dictionaries (translators). You write or speak a word i sticks better than when reading it i think… Well again for me its like that.-

How about those software? Rosetta Stone? Do they allow the user to practice speech? Hehe cc, we are in the same boat, im not living in an English speaking country either but im learning in an university where English is the language they use. Somehow i have manged one year.
I want to try a software like Rosetta, anybody got opinions? thnks

Definitely read a lot of books for the grammar. Also watch a bunch of American made movies. Different parts of America speak sentences differently. Southerners speak different from northerners. Black people speak differently than white people.
IMO, speaking English fluently in America is not a big thing to learn. I know in Pennsylvania we don’t speak English very fluently anyway haha. From reading what you typed, your good enough to make it in the US. Just get your grammar down and you should do just fine in America.

building up vocabulary is the most important thing as in my opinion , theres is an excellent series of vocabulary books+CDs from uni of Cambridge. You can dwnload them frm . The title is “English Vocabulary in use”

Yeah, me too. Sometimes I fall asleep when reading a book especially biography books. My English improves when I’m playing games like Borderlands or that kind of stuff..
