How to make internets faster?

I live in the hostel at my school and the internets here is shared. The first day i was here there was very fast net. But it seems like someone is downloading.
because of this my ping in games is crappy(over 200 ping) But before it used to be like 20.
Are there any programs that could make my internet faster. So i have good ping. Or any programs to prioritize my connection to be fastest.

Make sure that when you are playing you don’t have any programs open that might take bandwidth away from the games (i.e. bit torrent, downloads, web browsers.)
Other than that, I’m not sure if there is any way to make the University’s network “faster”.

You cant do much… Only admin’s of your hostel can prioritize stuff in that network…
