How to install WinXp by copying setup files?
January 27th, 2020
I can’t install WinXP pro by booting from the CD. For some reason, it hang during the setup or my cd drive would just stop working. I’ve tried numerous times and I’m bored. Some internet buddy said that I can install Win by copying setup files to C. 1) Did he mean copying .cab files and into the folder i386? or copying the i386 folder only?
2) I don’t know which files/folders to be copied to C:\
The CD has the usual -component -add -docs -i386 et al folders.
3) And what happens next after the setup files has been copied?
How do I actually install WinXP? I can’t really boot from my hdd, can I?
4) Or is there any other easier way to install Win if cd drive won’t cooperate during setup? like using bootable pendrive?
I’ve googled but I could have put in the wrong keyword…
Could somebody point me to the right site/tut/direction?
Any help is appreciated..snarky remarks are not.
Thank you
You could try these:
1. Replace your Windows XP installer. Find another one.
2. Replace your CD/DVD rom/writer.
3. If above don’t work, copy the Windows XP in D:/ not C:/ (because you will install XP in C:/) and run setup.
4. During installation, choose New installation not Upgrade.
5. Good luck mate.
General this can’t be done on one hard drive, if you have 2 then put it on your 2nd hard drive and install xp on your 1st. As formatting will wipe your hard drive, along with the files u copyed.
Another way around it can be to partition your hard drive (which means u only need 1 physical hard disk)
edited…I meant I’ve formatted my C drive..there are 3 other fat32 partition…only have 1 hdd. .. the others are dead and dying..hmm..I ‘ll try copy the files onto D. ..dunno if this’ll work..oh..well
Don’t copy it from your disk, maybe it’s corrupt – try downloading a version of it.
