Mac mini is copying files twice?

Why on my mac mini when I copy a file on the desktop to another folder on the desktop it copies and takes a second…and then once its copied the same file is in the old folder as well as the new folder? I like how on Windows that it moves the file completely…can I do this on my mac in a setting somehow? Thanks

It does that by default. Hold the CMD key while dragging and dropping and that should fix the problem.
