no u dnt have to format both partitions if u dnt want 2. U can choose which partition (i.e.) drive to format. BEFORE DOING ANY FORMATTING MAKE SURE U TRANSFER ALL UR PERSONAL STUFF AND THE OTHER STUFF U NEED FROM DRIVE C (eg: like the files in my documents)….

make sure all the stuff you don’t want to lose is safe on another partition or dvd or usb device or whatever. Then format your drive and reinstall. Also you may consider using google.

If your C and D partitions are on the same physical drive then yes you can move space around with partition magic or other tools but if they are actually 2 physical drives then teh answer is no way right click on MY COMPUTER ICON select PROPERTIES then HARDWARE TAB then DEVICE MANAGER then click the + to left of DISK DRIVES this will list the physical drives in case you do not know how many you have
I only have one hard drive…. how to step by step to format and to move space around?
First thing before you format anything is to make a list of all your hardware and download the latest drivers from the manufacturers sites. Install Everest and it will give you all the info about the innards of your PC. You want sound card, graphics card, network card (if applicable), motherboard drivers etc. etc.
You don’t have to touch partition D when you format your HD so save all the drivers you download into a folder on drive (partition) D.
Download the the ETHO (Etho has reliable releases) release allready mentioned …… XP SP2 Corporate (Dec 2007).
Burn the Etho release to a CD.
If you are happy with the size of your partitions I wouldn’t bother changing sizes because you might mess up your D partition if you haven’t done this before.
Once you burn the CD enter your BIOS (press Delete on boot up) and make sure your CD/DVD drive is the first in boot priority.
Put the ETHO CD into your drive and reboot …… you will be given the option to BOOT FROM CD as your PC starts up so choose that (it will start the XP installation disk). Then just follow the install menus as the appear ……. when you get to the part where you can format your drive (partition) choose C and quick format ( don’t do a full format ‘cos it can take forever) …….. then install XP onto the C partition.
You D partition will remain intact and will not be affected by the installation and all the stuff you have saved on D will be there when the OS is installed.
