it will work. does your computer not have a DVI port, as DVI -> HDMI is ALOT better.

no dvi, just the 15 pin vga input

I don’t think you will get 1080p with that. The VGA will limit it quite a lot.

yes
you will need dvi to use it for quality 1080p, vga to hdmi will be basic quality like on your monitor now with a tiny touch difference.

The only thing that will limit resolution from a PC to a 1080p monitor/TV will be the video card. VGA/HDMI/DVI will all display 1080p just fine.

VGA is analog and HDMI is digital
so a VGA to HDMI cable may or may not work depending if your VGA connector has digital output
most VGA connectors DON’T have digital output

this is the product from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-8m-VGA-HDMI-Cable-Adapter-M-M-Laptop-PC-LCD-TV-/200531088666?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item2eb095951a

this is the product from ebay
if it will work depends on your VGA output not the cable it’s self
try googling “vga to hdmi <your PC/lappy model here>”
and see if anyone else is using a cable like that with the same PC/lappy you have
