Gaming Laptop & PC

January 25th, 2020

Hi,
So I already have a Gaming PC (Specs are in my signature), but I am now wanting to buy a gaming laptop to suite the benefits of having my own
computer when going to friend, holidays, and general laying about the house. (basically can game and watch movies anywhere)
So I am currently looking at the Lenovo Y500 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-Ideapad-Laptop-Black-Graphics-Windows/dp/B00B2HVYRI/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1367276064&sr=1-1&keywords=y500+sli
But don’t really know if there are any better ones out there, for under 800 and also what should I do with my current desktop build?
Thanks.

You are making one of the best decisions of your life my friend, haha. I have the Y580 and let me say, it’s a beast. Excellent build quality, all around brushed aluminum. Japanese parts, backlit keyboard, Dolby modes for normal, movie and automatic. So it adjusts the contrast and volume. Graphics card is a beast, will play any new game maxed out or medium, depending on the game. I mean I can run Bioshock Infinite maxed out no problem, maybe that will give you an idea. Great battery life even with all these high end guts. USB 3.0 ports, 15 in 1 card reader, built in speakers with bass. Hmm what else…well those were the highlights. Oh and the CPU is fast, 8 core. Mine has 6GB RAM, but that’s more than adequate. So yeah go for it.
Edit: I was looking at the one from the link you provided, that one’s probably a new model they came out with. It has the 650gt. Mine has a 660m, which is much faster, I suggest you buy one with the 660m. Cheers

Well the model you have is the y580 which is around the same price as the y500, although the only differences are that the y580 has a 660m and Windows 7, but the y500 allows 650 sli which apparently is better than the 660 although some games do not work with sli. What is it like playing games such as BF3 (and BF4 when released), is it future proof, I know that laptops get outdated pretty quick which is why I picked a desktop but due to mobility I am wanting a lapppy.

I will never buy an alienware as I think there just overpriced rubbish which you can get same spec laptops for much cheaper.

You said it dude, Alienware is a piece of ~love~. And yeah the 660m can run BF3 no problem on medium-high settings. BF4 will probably run fine too. I mean it’s not a nasty beast like a 680 or 690, but it holds its own very nicely with the new games, yet it is a mobile GPU. And you’re right about the SLI not performing well with most games, thats why I suggest you get the Y580. And personally I find windows 8 very clunky, I’d stick to win 7, everything’s compatible with it.
All in all, they are both great choices, the choice is yours. If you have any more questions just pm me.
