Formatting laptop (Toshiba A300 satellite)

I tried formatting this laptop, but the problem is that it takes too long for the disc drive to detect it and the setup doesnt start.
What can i do to format it??
I need to format it urgently.
Can i format the laptop using another laptop, connecting via LAN or something??
I dont have a portable disc drive…so that is not going to work for me…
Any other suggestions…please help:(
