Firefox using over 2GB of RAM bringing IDM speeds to a crawl
August 4th, 2013
also its bring my download speeds in IDM down to a crawl, then as soon as i close Firefox my download speed jumps back up to max again
ive tried disabling and uninstalling different add-ons, themes, etc but nothing seems to work
only thing i havnt uninstalled is Greasemonkey and Userscripts as im lost without a linkchecker
maybe its just the latest build coz i have not had these issues in the past
is anyone else experiencing these issues with Firefox?
any ideas how to fix it guys?
I’m using Iceweasel (almost identical to Firefox but on Linux), but I don’t really ever get any addons that are resource hogs.
All I can suggest you do is to open Task manager when you are having the issues, and see what processes are using the most of the CPU. It could quite be addons in Firefox, the same happens in IE.
I’m just off to bed, but maybe others have more suggestions
thanks gilly mate
maybe its just the latest build
what version you running ?
is there a firefox “safe mode” in your start menu
if you open it that way is it the same ?
any help here

do you have greasemonkey scripts ? but the problem he is having
in the link below is firefox 3.6.2, maybe it is the same as yours since
you have greasemonkey installed…
It surely looks like add-ons issue.
GreaseMonkey scripts, since not officially recognized by Mozilla, are especially prone to memory leaks.
I used to use GreaseMonkey scripts, but I stopped for the very same reason.
found it from here

disable all your ad ons and scripts and then try running it… then slowly enable one at a time …
you should be able to figure out which one is causing problems for u..
I use Firefox 9.0.1 with a lot of addons, GreaseMonkey+scripts
While FF is taking far too much memory (starts with 160mb and slowing grows to 400-500mb) it never reaches that high (2 Gb). I have 4gb of ram.
As mentioned above, it is possible that there is one addon or script with memory leak and the way to find out is to disable all and enable them one by one, as suggested above.
