Finalizing disk on CD-RW?
January 22nd, 2020
thanks for your help guys!
Nope, you can always erase what is on a cd-rw. The only way to make sure it can’t be erased is to use a cd-r.
A CD-RW disk has a thicker layer of resin than the usual CDs.
This allows you to “write” on it more than once in the same areas of the disk.
A multi-session disk is a different thing. It means you can burn 500MB of a 700MB CD, the rest (200MB) remaining to be used at a later time.
The CD-RW allows you to overwrite the previously writen 500MB.
It is recomended to finalize the session if you don’t plan to add more files, to prevent reading errors.
So…you can write again on a CD-RW even if you’ve finalized the session.
as said a rw can allways be erased rw uses a phase change recording system where by mollicules of the dye are rotated as opposed to holes or pits burnt in the dy for write once types they do not over write so the complete disc has to be eraised to recover free space
