file virus scan from a URL

it does what every remote uploader need’s, it checks for viruses in a file that is on a URL, like on Rapidshare….
is this legit and really usable?
or is there a better service than this one, and i’m just making a fool of myself for something that is well known thing ?
It can be done easily so yes, it probably is legit
is there a better service for this, that uploaders here use?
