Boot up Virus Scan

January 22nd, 2020

a friend at work has a virus/pop up that fills his screen rendering his computer unusable. He can’t even get task manager up because he can’t see it! does anyone know of a virus scan that can be used off a disk on boot up? i used to have one a long time ago, but don’t have a floppy drive now. i doubt his laptop has one either!
urgent help is appreciated
thanks

Kaspersky’s kav10 will work obviously you will need to download it and make a disk on a working pc. Just change the boot options on the infected machine to boot from the drive. https://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk
If you need to boot from usb rather than disk you will need to make it bootable this microsoft tool will do that. http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

excellent, thanks for your response!
i’ve advised him to boot up into safe mode and try a scan through there. I have a sneaky suspicions its malware or some other unscrupulous little program!

No need to even use safe mode as i said in my first post you can boot this stand alone just change the boot settings usually pressing F2 at start up gets you to this menu and then choose wether it be disk or usb you are booting from.

Gazman’s right – a boot disc with a virus checker or anti malware will do the job – kasperksy makes a boot iso, as do most of the AV people.
Hiren’s boot dvd also has one, and it also has a live XP that you can even download a full virus checker through and check the hard drive with.
