Driving a european car in America (california) question..

If I wanted to buy a european car (specifically a Opel Ampera) and I wanted to drive it in the US, could I? I heard there are standards they have to follow and I’m not sure if it would be legal to drive the european car in America. Where is a place I can order one and ship it to the US and get it checked and legal to drive here?

Not 100% but I’m pretty sure they make LHD models for the USDM

california is the worst state you could have picked
emission equipment is your problem, as california is the most stringent state
even US auto makers make “california versions” of their cars to meet those standards
