European Warranty – How long can a company retain a product
July 31st, 2016
A certain company will have had my PC system for 8 weeks next week. Are they allowed to retain it any longer? They sent my GPU also about 8 weeks ago and last week they informed me that the company (MSI) would still need 2-4 weeks to repair the item, and I’m guessing another 2 weeks shipment???
Worst part is that I know there’s another fault in the system but they refuse to do any testing until my GPU (or refund) come back … and they call themselves a commercial and helpful company …
Is there an European law or something that dictates how long a company can withhold products from customers under warranty …? I really don’t feel like waiting a decade before getting my system back …
I dont know your location but in the uk theres a 1 year warranty unless you pay for extra warranty.
How long had you had this item before you sent it back?
But hear you can ask for refund if the item develops a fault if its within that 1st year.
Or they can replace it with an item of the same standerd or better but not of less quality.
If you are in the UK then i would ask for full refund if not replaced within 1 week.
Hope that helps you abit.
There is no limit on how long a company can hold your product for a repair. Microsoft for instants, Takes their sweet as time to repair their ~love~. About 3-4 months. They do this so you can get fed up with waiting, so it enables you to purchase the same exact item that you sent for repairs.
I sent it back in on the last day of my 2 year warranty (all items are still covered). The problem is they are taking way too long …
@Kay There surely must be something that explicitly says something about the durance of these scenarios? They could take years to fix something then …
To answer your question as quickly as possible: In the UK, no.
I dont agree that theres no limit to how long a company can keep you waiting, you have got consumer rights and you have got to
use them, I would contact them and ask for a replacement or refund, the item was still in warranty and you need to make this point
more strongly. Have a look on trading standerds website, you could find out something there on how long they`ve got.
It’s not a UK company. It’s settled in Belgium/Netherlands/Germany, and called Alternate. Wouldn’t it the best just be to involve a third party, the so called “ombudsmen”?
In the uk we`ve got trading standards they would probably just advise unless the company is upsetting alot of people then they might act and take action upon them.
You probably have something similar where you are, contact them for advice, and contact the company involved to inform them your not happy about the time its taking
and you may seek legal advice (it might kick them up the arse) on how to resolve this.
