Copyright question

August 8th, 2016

I am having a small technical problem. There is this company that makes rc jet engines Wren trubines and they have released cad drawings of their turbines. Now I modeled 3d the turbine and shared it with others website grabcad. the website staff there took down my model and gave me worning for violating copyright. The company wrent turbines themselves released the drawings to the public and I released the 3d model and of course I gave credit to them for the cad drawings so technically I am not in violation of copyright? am I right or wrong? the staff there gave me suspension my account I was thinking of closing my account since they took down my model and since I did nothing wrong. they refuse to listen the woman staff refuses to see reason and she is in charge of copyright there
Answer #1
Just because they posted the drawings does not mean that they are in public domain. To be certain, email the company and get permission and then use it to have your account reinstated; or perhaps there is something on the website saying the drawings can be reproduced, modified, and redistributed.
Answer #2
What’s the question?
Answer #3
What's the question?am I in violation of copyright? but ~ censored ~ it I erased my account ~ censored ~ exploiters they just use members for their models to promote their website. shame though I did make quite a few connections with many engineers around the world
Answer #4
If Wren release CAD drawings there must be conditions attached.
If Wren registered and hold copyright on all their drawings etc. then even if they release those to the public they still hold copyright until that copyright runs out (if ever). Wren can do whatever they like with their copyrighted stuff but you can’t.
Answer #5
Best would be to get permission from Wren. As mentions, the drawings may not be in the public domain and so, might have conditions attached.
If you get the permission, you could forward it to grabcad to reinstate your account. The key is, when in doubt, ask for permission to insulate yourself so that there’s no opportunity for someone to bite back.
Answer #6
Yes, you clearly violated the copyright law though I’m having difficulty understanding your question. If you modeled your 3d based on the image they provided you must first ask for permission.
Answer #7
no mate 3d solid model was based from the CAD drawings released by Wren Turbines. so I released to the public the 3d model. it wasnt like I was making a profit had any harm intent

thats good advice I though since I was mot making any profit from 3d model I was not doing any harm but I guess Wren must have restrictions
Im not going back to grabcad either ~ censored ~ em I upload my models they get customers, unfortunate a lot of good engineers there and good contacts especially for me and the good feed back i used to get on my models but website is shit members are great haaa not to mention the large library of 3d models but ~ censored ~ it
Answer #8
I’ll bet it was grabcad, who thought this wasn’t allowed, not wren turbines that sent a copyright complaint. perhaps wren turbines can contact grabcad for you.

Answer #10
and of course I gave credit to them for the cad drawings so technically I am not in violation of copyright?
YES, you violated copyright agreements.
You can not just say or print “credits goes to blah, blah..” YOU need a legal document in writing from all parties with expressed written consent to use/copy/etc
the legal owners of a product or service.
You sound like a pirate, “credits goes to..” Pirate language wont fly in a day in court.
it wasnt like I was making a profit had any harm intent
This is so wrong. Copyright protection is more than just using someones product/service. In most cases, you need a legal
agreement just to use a “logo” for example. What you post/develop does not represent the company you are stealing from
in their eyes. A misrepresentation of the originator for the product/service.
Answer #11
a good way to do this is to send it to the copyright holder so they can see it, and ask permission to post it. skipping that part was the problem.

The concept of copyright is to protect someone when somebody else is doing financial damage to them so they dont steal from that other person. there is no intent of any damage done I was neither taking credit or making profits from it + they released the files to the public so obviously people are going to make 3d out of the 2d files. I took everything down but I wanted to know was the website within their right to take down my post or did I violate copyright. then again most of my 3d files were based on 2D drawings steam engines and such developed by other people which I gave credit to and yet no complaint was heard about that? I just think the staff wasnt too found of me since I was making – remarks on them ripping off the users by promoting their site and allowing other to steal models
Answer #13
a good way to do this is to send it to the copyright holder so they can see it, and ask permission to post it. skipping that part was the problem.that would have been the simpler way will do next time. All started because one user flagged the model for no reason because he was hateful then again they could have asked me to take it down myself instead of just removing and not sending any warning or anything to me.
