Copyright Law Help – Law change in New Zealand
March 28th, 2014
I’m not really a wizz with all the internet lingo, but apparently P2P is a no, I know that means peer to peer, and torrent are basically the main thing that they’re cracking down on.
Here’s a website about it, if i’m not making any sense:
http://www.respectcopyrights.co.nz/index.html
And heres an article

Please, any help or information would be really appreciated.
Please remember to use the CODE FUNCTION

I don’t know the laws in your Country, but in the USA, we have similar laws; however, their harder to enforce. Because of Privacy Rights, the only wide open place for them to catch us downloading is in torrents (p2p). The issue with direct downloads (like from file hosting sites such as megaupload and fileserver) is that in order for our ISP’s to bust us for downloading stuff from them, the company its self (ex. megaupload) would have to agree to let the ISP track certain illegal downloads to see who is downloading them and verify the content. Surely no file hosting agree to such a thing, they would instantly lose popularity. All they have to abide by is the Take Down Act, which says if someone else (or you) post copyrighted material that is hosted on your site (server) and are requested by the copyright holders to take it down; that weather the content is illegal or not, as long as you take it down within 24 hours after the notice, no legal charges can be taken against you.
Bottom line is, you need to check out the laws in your country, and know them well. Knowledge is the greatest power.
I wouldn’t download anything from p2p anyway.. not since the 90’s..
USE a VPN.. it encrypts your connection and uses their ip..
ISP won’t see nothing but garbled data with a vpn.
Search here in the apps sections.. there’s a many.
or surf on a wifi hotspot.

Torrents are my preferred method of download, always have been and always will be until something changes. You just gotta be smart about which torrents you download and which ones you don’t. I have seen my ISP suspend internet access for downloading torrents, many times, to my friends. I download torrents night and day and never get in trouble because I choose my torrents wisely.
No where else will I get access to so much, so fast, all in one spot, for free. I got a 26Mbit connection and torrents provide me with a consistent 3MB/s or better on most of my downloads.

VPN’s aren’t free, but definitely the way to go.

You’re saying I can get a “Free” VPN and maintain my low latency high bandwidth connection?
Woah, didn’t expect so much help. Thank you all so much.
raemundo I just recently joined slingshot and signed up to their AYCE plan 2 nights ago, you should sign up to http://vpnv6.com/,
$12 NZD a month, i believe its owned by a NZer itself. Helps your identity hidden and you are to bypass traffic shaping restrictions imposed by ISPs.
I’ve coded the link(s) for you this time – if you don’t know how to do it, please check the sticky thread in the helpdesk section.

our plan is really good already. its 20, an only a dollar every mb you go over. and, tbh we are budget in this household, which you can probably tell from the fact i’m trying to get around copyright laws.

damn $1 for every mb over ~love~ so 1gb will be $1000 bad plan
i think he meant to say GB
By the way ram, you are paying for 20GB only? how is that cheap? and which ISP are you with? I’m confused.
Download from filehosters, problem solved.
Mate there is no need to worry if you are downloading from this website. If you plan on going out into p2p be smart about it. It certainly was easier before this law came in but its not going to stop the majority. It was only a matter of time before a law like this would be introduced. After all the industry does have to pay huge salaries to their actors.
So as far as this law goes… fair enough. The only thing that pisses me off is the fact that the tribunal which you have to face if you are caught 3 times presumes that you are GUILTY, not the other way around. Hopefully one day somebody could challenge that on the ground of violation of the Bill of Rights. Write a letter to your local MP, as I have, and express you concerns. Posting things of facebook etc etc is going to do nothing.
Just be smart about what and where you download.

We don’t go over 20GB, we use our bandwith wisely, I think. But if we do go over 20GB its only a $1 every GB we go over. Sorry if that is load of nonsense, I’m just illiterate in general.

That’s what it is for me in the States. AT&T capped out internet, but we rarely go over it. However, one time they forgot to send us our bill, so by the time they posted us with a notice, it had gotten up to $80, when it’s usually 10…
The new bill/law changes nothing for anyone not using peer to peer and/or torrents
Using filehosts (rapidshare, megaupload, etc) has always been illegal under previous bills , so if u risked it before ok, nothing has changed to make it “more dangerous”
