or back up data and fresh install.

A bit hard when i can’t even access windows umm?
I tried to access safe mode, took 15 minutes and nothing,
Answer #3
Use a boot CD…Backup any important data…reformat and reinstall windows…
Answer #4
: As i said, that COULD be a bit hard when i can’t access safe mode.
Error says it can’t locate WININET.dll whats that mean?
Answer #5
a repair install seems in order
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
after you do that install/re-install your anti-virus and run a full scan
also be sure to remove any restore points
or just copy all needed data and re-format & re-install from scratch to be sure
scan any data your saving
with a boot CD like “active boot disk” nothing on the PC matters
boots to it’s own environment
and “active boot disk” supports USB or CD/DVD burning with a portable burning app

Answer #7
: As i said, that COULD be a bit hard when i can't access safe mode.

Why? Not hard at all, you don’t need safe mode to boot from a CD. Get something like ACTIVE BOOT DISK from here and from there you can backup files to another hard disk if you like.
But you don’t even have to do that if you do a repair install from the XP CD. Repair install just reinstalls the windows system files and keeps all your settings and data intact.
Error says it can't locate WININET.dll
whats that mean?

It means winindet.dll is missing or corrupted from the failed restore operation. Wininet.dll is a module that contains Internet-related functions used by Windows applications.
Answer #8
Error says it can't locate WININET.dll
probably corrupt
Answer #9
: As i said, that COULD be a bit hard when i can't access safe mode.
You don’t need no safe mode…Boot with Hiren’s BootCD then choose the MiniXP from the menu…Then a basic windows will load…Use windows explorer to copy your files over…Avoid copying any exe files…

Answer #24

Answer #25

While burning you should burn at low speed 2x or 4x
Answer #26
I did it at 4x, should i try the lowest one?
Answer #27
I don’t see why you can’t do a repair install, At first it will say “setup windows now” so press enter, It will then scan your HD for previous versions of windows and you should get a message saying “Setup has detected a previous installation of windows” and “Do you want setup to repair it” and then just press enter. If the CD came with your PC then it will be on there I guarantee it.
P.S It is NOT the recovery console part.
Answer #28
It’s been reformatted.
But we are still having the same problem as before.
Answer #29
Hi guys,
My desktop xp has been reformatted but we still have the same problem..
My parents only use the computer, but after a fresh install, my dad was installing iTunes and the computer locked up and wouldn’t come out of it.
This has been happening for two weeks now..
It has 2gb of RAM, any ideas on what i can do to work out the issue? Saves me going to a PC store and having them look at it..
Cheers

Answer #30
you run a check disk
you can also try running “memtest” to check the memory
it heating up at all
fan or fans working and clean ?
Answer #31
Well it sounds like either your hard drive has had enough,Power supply is going or your ram has packed up. Take the ram out and clean the contacts & slots, then re-seat it. Then try again.
If it makes no difference then try a memtest as said. If that comes back clean, it’s likely to be hdd related or power supply. You could also re-seat the cpu & check the heatsink is on properly and clean.
Answer #32
I did a windows memory test but nothing came up, i took out a RAM card and treyed loading up, it starts up fine but the mouse fails to move despite the kyboard working, any ideas?
Also have dusted. all clean now.
Answer #33
so all is good ‘cept the mouse, it loads windows ?
USB mouse ?
wireless ?
battery good ?
got another mouse ?
you check device mgr for any problems ?
Answer #34
I’ve gotten the mouse working now. It only works in one of the USB ports which is weird, not sure but it’s working..
Although, my speakers aren’t working now, i have it plugged into the correct audio port, what could be the problem? I’ve restarted several times.
Computer hasn’t locked up yet, but will be putting it through a bit more later, installing programs so will know more then.
Answer #35
on-board sound
if so seems all the problems are motherboard related
you try a bios “reset to defaults”
Answer #36
In device manager there is a.
“Multimedia Audio Controller” which has a ‘!’ which is in a yellow box/circle.
I tried to install the driver under properties but it wont do anything, any ideas?
Answer #37
what driver ?
you sure you have the correct one ?
you ran the updated driver ?
you point that to where there is an INF file for the drivers ?
Answer #38
I now have audio back. drivers all updated.
Only problem is the computer is still locking up, any ideas on why this could be?
Answer #39
blue screening or just freezing ?
any error ?
Answer #40
, try reinstall a fresh copy window xp, before you do it, do some backup like format the main window used hdd space and left the other alone, when u try to boot cd, during start comp, keep pressing f10 to enter boot menu (depends on different motherboard) then select cd-rom, then you should see sentence that ask you to press any key to boot cd, follow procedure of install a clean xp then you’re done.
Answer #41
reinstall your os
