Windows 7 Ultimate with 2 gigs of ram ( 2 sticks being 1 gig each). I have a 1.8ghz intel dual core processor. I basically have this computer with an 8600GTS
HP Pavillion a1640n
I keep getting a BSOD now giving me this.
0x0000124
is this a hardware issue? do I have to replace my harddrive?
from what i am reading it seems almost always go back to a hardware issue
Start with the easy stuff Reset your bios to default in case you have any over clock settings that may be causing this

everything is default and I never Overclocked this computer. I can finish installing the os, but when it comes to loading the OS (after the windows 7 logo) it turns black and gives a bsod or goes back to the beginning of the startup. I just need to know what to do to fix this or what to buy.
124 is a generic hardware communication error. Most of the cases were overclocking or to much heat The rest were assd hardware failures board / ram / cpu
here is a logical approach to diagnosing the problem

unfortunately at the end it goes back to remove and replace parts to find the problem up to and including the motherboard
This one is not a cut and dry error code it is a general communication failure code which can be hard to find
