Can a Virus survive Hard Disk Format?!
January 28th, 2020
home page called (home.sweetim.com) ….couldn’t remove it all and my antivirus started to detect stuff …so as it is a Brand new laptop so i formatted the whole hard drive..i got nothing at all stored ..installed win7 again and Then i
installed Google chrome again and signed in with my account ..anyway after reopening Chrome i found the same home page but now my antivirus detects nothing …
Notes:
i Found that my PC started to act weird when trying to install “Driver genuis” through torrent from a reputable one..
i only have two partitions ..System (34 GB) and other (431 GB) and when installing the new windows i formatted them both separately ….
my question is did that virus or whatever survived the format ?
is it that i used my Google account to sign in so it restored my settings along with the virus?
am i doing the Format correctly?
Thanks in advance
I don’t think that viruses are that advanced yet to survive a format.
The best thing to do is to check all the programs you install and think about how you got them.
Now that you’ve reformatted, and your antivirus isn’t detecting anything – apart from the homepage issue, that you couldn’t change BEFORE…. Can you change it now??
Chrome probably restored all your previous settings when you resigned in, hense why you are seeing that homepage again. But now that you have formatted, you should be able to change it with no problem.
It’s unlikely that the virus survived the format.
In one word ?
NO….
And don`t use that sweetin crap… its disgusting malware.
Keep away from useless ADDONS
PS: and change the Home startt page.
And Driver Genius is really crap[.
Just use google.com
well now i uninstalled both programs but it still exists
Delete ya Cookies ??
Download Malwarebytes Pro run it.. it will tell U all the crap Sweetin installs(which is hard to remove)
Download and Install Your Uninstaller run it.
Chek and see if anyt sweetin stuffis there and Uninstall it..Click on Advanced Mode first to see if some thing is there
if not..then uninstall in Normal mode. Follow the prompts.Do not cick on the re-start button when asked(just close it)
Now it will continue to find ALL reg entries after it finds them click ok to remove.
Thats it.
Restart… or Log off (to be quicker) Log in. Download the Nvidia Control Manger
I`m sure U can run the NVIDIA Software (for drivers etc;)
PS: As 4 Vrius stuff U can have all I use… (and anyone else) Via HSF.
Just ask.
Cheers !
its embedded in you registry now
so uninstalling programs wont work
What a lot O`Boollocks
Thanks a lot guys for taking the time to answer …
i changed the homepage to Google successfully but now this thing still opens with Google every time i restarts chrome…
in the previous windows install i installed programs with cracks and so but this version of windows after the format i only installed freeware programs …i installed AVG free antivirus and Slim Drivers free ..That’s why i am going nuts how this thing still exists …
last thing i signed out and disconnected my Google account but the thing still exists and i found out that thing doesn’t exist in internet explorer ..
you probably downloaded sweetim as part of antivirus or Slim Drivers
you should always custom install so that you dont install other crap included in the install package of a programme you have downloded
well now i uninstalled both programs but it still exists

but be careful what you install next time

Quite a few hits there..
Don’t use Drivers Genius or any of that crap.
Windows 7 and your laptop manufacturers support site should have all required drivers
and one other thing….there is no such thing as reputable torrent site….all public tracker sites are filled with crapware and viruses…so be very carefull before downloading from public trackers and make sure the user lists all files including in the torrent …
Short answer – yes, there are some that can survive a format, unless it’f a full low-level format.
Long answer – as above BUT.. these boot record viruses are not that common now (they were famous in the dos era) and it’s unlikely that you will have one.

thank u all guys for taking the time to answer i just love …
here is what i did i actually deleted the partitions and formatted them again ..repartitioned reinstalled win7 and got the drivers myself ..now all i have is Firefox and my free security antivirus ..things are normal but i don’t dare to install chrome again …
i hope this does it ….
now for further usage i am thinking of using deepfreeze for the c drive or creating a restore point or using windows backup …what do u suggest and thank u crazies for ur proposal i would be glad to
Sometimes restore points will KEEP a virus..
Install your system, install your KNOWN good programs (grphics tools, pdf readers, media player, etc)
Now boot to Hiren’s boot cd and use acronis image to make a backup image of your hard drive – when things go tits-up then just restore the image.

thanks but not quite familiar with What u say ..need to read about it a bit
About Acronis?
It’s a whole drive to an image file (with compression). It saves it exactly as it is and restores it to the identical state it was when you made the image file.
I use it constantly – it’s great for testing programs and stuff..
Takes about 3-10 mins to make the image and about 3-6 min to put it back.
thanks for the info ..looks like the real deal
If you format a drive, and reinstall windows (getting rid of all partitions on any drive). The chances of you keeping something from the exact point when Windows first boots (unless maybe if you have an infected usb stick, or infected install that auto runs and reinstalls the virus [unlikely on win 7]) are almost zero. It’s probably something you are doing after the install is complete.
