Blu ray players playing 16:9 movies in letterbox.Help PLZ

August 2nd, 2016

As the subject says… I am having problems with 3 blu-ray players. I have tried blu-ray movies from the video shop, copied discs using DVDFab ( copy main movie with 16:9 selected, even retail 16:9 dvd’s.
Every movie I put on, the same thing happens. Even tho 3 TV’s are 16:9 PAL, the same thing happens & I have no idea why it is doing this.
I hope someone with a bit more knowledge can suggest what is happening here. Is this normal, or is it just me?
Example here

I appreciate any help.

Movies are most often not 16:9 but cinema aspect ratio 2.39:1, that is why you get black bars. TV shows and made for TV movies are 16:9, and SOME Blurays/DVD’s are also, but most keep the original aspect ratio.
There are expensive TV’s that are 21:9 which show them without bars

Sorry to say it’s normal. 16:9 is roughly 1.78 to 1. So yes you’re TV may be designed for those movies. But most movies aren’t made it that aspect, so everything wider than that will unfortunately appear as letterbox.

You may have an option in your blu ray player or TV settings to do full screen or pan and scan.
This can get rid of the letter box but you miss out on some of the picture at the sides.
