im looking for some1 who can help me i just bought a new computer which has asrock mother board it had in it a sata hdd but i have another maxtor ide hdd with data on it which are very useful to me i connected the hdd using ide cable and made it a slave although the ide hdd had windows xp on it but when i try to access the hdd it says the hdd is not formated is there a way to access my hdd without formating the hdd
Answer #1
Probably you can’t format it even if you try…Check all cables are connected firmly…Also if you have another device connected as master…try disconnecting it and boot the computer with the HD connected as master…see if that’s what causing the problem…
Answer #2
i have 2 ide hdd connected and my main master hdd is sata i want that this 2 ide hdd to be slaves
Answer #3
Setting the ide as master have nothing to do with the sata drive…Sata don’t use master, slave…Just for testing purpose to find out what the problem is…
Answer #4
ok so i should connect both my ide hdd without any jumpers on them right
Answer #5
Put back the jumpers the way they were originally…connect the IDE HD on it’s own…Disconnect any other IDE devices…Boot to windows…If all goes well then the jumpers are set wrong or other ide device is conflicting…
Answer #6
i tried that but still it says format disk and i dont want that
Answer #7
If you have a spare IDE cable..Try it…
Answer #8
ok ill try it
Answer #9
2 ide hdd to be slaves
the end one needs to be master and the mid-cable needs to be slave
or try both on cable select
if there’s one you can not read set it to master, put it on the end of the cable with the other drive not installed
try any and all jumper settings if it stiil won’t read
after you get it to read then connect the other as slave mid-cable
