3mbps DSL connection — can’t DL higher than 384kbps?!?!?

January 22nd, 2020

I pay for rapidshare & i can’t seem to DL any faster than 384kbps…
My speed test show that i have an avg speed of 2.3 – 2.8 mbps…
Anyone have this problem & was able to get higher speeds out of their downloads…
Does rapidshare cap the DL speeds?
Or is it my internet provider?
Any comments or suggestions are appreciated…
Please feel free to post your type of connection & DL speeds,
I’m dying to know what every one else is getting…

Answer #1
i have 2mps internet conection and i download with 245kbps from rs prem back 2 months
Answer #2
2.8mbps / 8 = 0.35MB/s
your max download speed is about 350 KB/s so its about right ..
Answer #3
Is that how it’s calculated Ste?
Where did you get that from?
Answer #4
Convert Megabits to Megabyte
3 megabits/s = 0.375 megabytes/s
Answer #5
its not a site what you see in the test is MegaBits per second and when you download you see KiloBytes per second and a Byte=8 Bits so 350KBps is like 0.35MBps*8=2.8 Mbps like stated above
Answer #6
Capital B in KB means Bytes
Small b means bits
A Byte is 8 times more than a bit
Now check what your downloads say KB or kb,
And reply back

Good Download Manager also matters. I will prefer IDM.

Answer #13
your ISP provides you speed in KBPS which means kilo bits per second…that doesn’t mean bytes…there is a difference between bit and byte…as 1 byte = 8 bits.. So 3 mega bits per second means 384 kilo bytes per second… And IDM shows speed in bytes not bits..
Answer #14
The old MB and Mb difference. Easy to misunderstand the difference, but there is a difference non-the-less.
Answer #15
I’m getting anywhere from 350KB/sec to 381…
The math makes sense, I’m getting what I’m supposed to get…
Thanks guys…
Answer #16
Ya.. just divide your connection speed by 8 and you get your download speed.
Answer #17
I wonder why ISP’s still state their speeds in bits.
