Laptop Memory Upgrade Question

January 27th, 2020

Howdy.
I currently have 1gb of dual channel DDR2 – 2x 512mb installed in my Toshiba Satellite P100-160.
As my 32 bit vista system will only recognise up to 3.5Gb, if I buy a 2x 2Gb kit of Crucial Ram:

Will I see the benefit of Dual Channel on the 3.5Gb or will this just be dropped to single channel?
If it’ll be single channel, would I get better performance from 2Gb dual channel or 3.5Gb single channel?
Many thanks!

Hi, my friend upgraded his pc (desktop) with 2x 2GB ram ddr2
he could only use 3.2GB but dual channel was enabled
It should be the same for the laptop I guess
I think 2GB dual channel gives better performance then 3.5GB single channel

Hi and thanks. Crucial’s official response confirmed it…
If you do want to insert a 4GB kit, this will run in dual channel, albeit Windows will only utilise between 3GB and 3.5GB of that.
