This is exactly why you should never give your ext HDD to anyone!
Back on topic, If the data is really important and you can afford it, Going with a professional
data recovery company would be the best approach! From my experience, The Mybook Essential HDDs do have a detachable USB bridge, However, That USB bridge also uses hardware encryption, So if you put it in a different enclosure – Your data will be completely inaccessible! (provided it’d work at all, it’s possible the HDDs own PCB was fried too)
Answer #3
Thank you very much
Answer #4
You could try connecting it internally to a PC or trying it in a different enclosure.
Answer #5
So that means the hard drive is okay , and not fried yet ?
Answer #6
Not necessarily, but it would be worth checking.
Answer #7
My friend done this as well lol.
We tried a few things, including taking it apart and plugging it in as a internal drive… Still no go. The whole hard drive was knackered.
Good luck! You might be lucky.
Answer #8
if my disk was knackered as you say can i change the board of the hard drive & re open it
Answer #9
The circuit board can be replaced, But there are no guarantees it’d work!
It needs to be an identical one (plus, you may need to swap certain chips from the current to the new one) you could ask for it here:

Your gonna have to provide all the relevant info of course. And for the record, You’ll need a Torx T8 screwdriver to get the job done. But I still maintain:
Going with a professional data recovery company would be the best approach!
Edit: On a second thought, Forget about it! As said before, The USB bridge uses hardware encryption, So even if you get the HDD’s circuit board replaced, Your still gonna need it to access your data! And finding a replacement could be difficult.
