WD My Book Essential 500GB External Hard Drive Problem

August 11th, 2013

At first it started to not open a file, and now says:
G:\ is not accessible.
The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
I have it on more than 450 GB worth of data that I would not like to lose, and he tells me that I should format the hard drive.
Please if anyone knows how to solve this problem please help me.
THANK YOU!

Answer #1
Your hard drive can have bad sectors. Try using HDD Regenerator.
Answer #2
Try running chkdsk on it. Keep it connected and turned on and reboot, see if it runs it automatically
If you didn’t want to run the risk of losing the data, you should have made a backup.
Answer #3
Do you have a desktop? Just take the drive out of the external case and put it into an empty bay if you have one. I have an older WD My Book Essential 320GB external drive and the case/connections eventually died. The drive worked fine once you take it out.
Answer #4
Had this happen to one of my external drives. Use a data recovery software from the apps forum such as “Recover my files” and then once your data is safely backed up you can go about investigating and fixing your external, if possible.

HOUSE!:I installed hdd regenerator and scan with it and believe it will take some time
the Meerkat:I tried the Chkdsk but nothing.I know that I should make a backup, but I did not and now there is nothing we can do unless you know some way.
kings:I tried it before but now no longer helps.

Answer #6
Keep the scan running until it’s over.
Answer #7
It will take 10 hours minimum!
