WD ‘My Book’ 3TB External Hard Disk Not Working!

February 2nd, 2020

Dear Folks
I own a WD ‘My Book’ External HDD of 3TB, using it since 2013 mid. The disk drive was in best running with goodies packed like Super Speed USB and USB 3.0. The Data Transfer speed is commendable and twice as the Seagate GoFlex one.
I trusted this Hard Disk a lot and my movies (mostly BDRX, TrueHD, rips and many other HD Scene Releases) are shacked on this drive. The External HDD was always plugged in (like my Seagate GoFlex 1TB drive). All of a sudden the drive was not being recognized by the computer. I didn’t mind to notice it and after a few days I found the light is all lit and there was no spinning on the drive, even on booting Unplugged the power pin for a month and just today I plugged it back, The drive went on spinning and identified by the computer. I went on hitting the ceiling, just to watch my library back on form, didn’t lasted it for minutes, the drive went on the same status as before.
Each of those HD content on that drive costs me hours of downloading days and man hours spent on Decompressing those scene releases. And money spent on buying premium account is just another effort which is going waste.
I hope y’all know how does it feels. Now some HDD guru’s please find the root cause of this external drive not spinning up. Didn’t tried it with any other computer yet. *Computer – Sony Vaio
*OS – Windows 8.1

hum … well :
Now some HDD guru's please find the root cause of this external drive not spinning up
Sorry man, but how’d you expect us to tell you why your external drive ain’t spinning up ?
I would recommend :
http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=132&sid=171&lang=en
see if they have some tool to analyze your drive , i.e. read error codes etc.
2nd option :
as you said, the drive is not spinning up , or is spinning up, showing in your pc, then gets “lost” :
this could be an issue with the power, or something completely different, hence :
try to connect it to a different PC
try resetting the device ( dont know bout the “My Book” series, but surely there is a “reset” function that will not erase the drive )
Open Windows Drive management and see if the WD can be found, also check the Device Manager to see if it can be found.
if possible, get the drive out of the case and connect it via esata or SATA to a PC and see if the content can be read.
I didn't mind to notice it and after a few days I found the light is all lit and there was no spinning on the drive, even on booting
Which light exactly and which color ? What does the manual say about that particular light in always on (as long as it isn’t the power LED)
Sorry dude, but some more information other than “not spinning up” is needed to help you out here.

Take the drive out of the case and try it in a desktop(you said vaio but not desktop or laptop). Two small knives at top and bottom of curved side will release the outer “book cover”. I have 3 my books and if you are careful it will leave no marks. Warranty is 2 years and if you could copy your files to another drive you might could get yours replaced. Enter your serial number here to check warranty. https://wdsupport.wdc.com/warranty/warrantycheck.asp?custtype=end

After many of the wild attempts, I came to know that, My UPS, where the adapter goes in having some power inadequacy very shortly. It can’t hold two external drives and other peripherals connected together. Like when I plugged in the ‘My Book’ alone, it worked like a dream!
Lucky I didn’t dissected this ‘My Book’ any further
Thanks @ & @ for your help
