CPU fan stop spinning for no reason MO-BO doesn’t detect it
January 25th, 2020
I thought maybe there wasn’t enough voltage getting to the fan so I tried 2 other power supplies but it does the same thing. Doesn’t detect the CPU fan.
I even took out the CMOS battery and cleared the BIOS to see if that would change anything but nope still wouldn’t detect the CPU fans that I tried.
I cleaned out any and all dust I found in-case that was causing it but still no change.
The system get’s into windows fine but I never kept it on for more than 2 minutes for fear of it overheating. Odd thing is when I connect the Case Fan to the 3-pin CPU fan connector it detects it. So this is why I’m stumped. Any ideas? Why would 3 CPU fans that came from working machines not be detected while the Case Fan from the same computer can be detected when plugged into the CPU Fans 3-pin connector?
May I have a few CPU-Z screenshots?
I know some of these scenarios, but I have to make sure that it is normal.

CPU fans connect to 4-pin PWM headers
It’s motherboard dependant. My cpu fan header is a 3 pin, the only 4 pin I have is labled for system fan.
I can’t get any CPU-Z screenshots because like I said, no CPU fan so I don’t want it to overheat.
What is your CPU brand and model?

Oh I see. Though I guess 3-pin CPU headers are pretty rare now. My motherboard has got around eight 4-pin headers
Well here’s a CPU-Z TXT report

Alright well I left it on and it didn’t turn off. The CPU fan DID spin but briefly while it was in windows. It would spin for a couple of seconds then turn off.
