SOLVED:Video encoding
August 7th, 2016
Any ideas?
I am using VidCoder/Handbrake by the way.
It depends …
If your subtitles are hard coded then you’re pretty much screwed. If they are not, I would remove the subtitles (export them for later), encode the video, and then add the subtitles back to the newly encoded video.
But it is more likely that they are hardcoded.
Anyway, why do you want to change the resolution to 720p.
They are soft coded, which is why I find it odd
Could it be possible that the subtitles are programmed to be aligned to only a specific resolution?
That’s why I would take them out and re-add them.
Vidcoder probably has kept their relative position on the recode rather than resetting them.
It’s easy enough to readd without recoding again. Just use xmedia recode; change the settings to video copy / audio copy / unclick the subtitles to get a subtitle free video. Use the result to add the subtitles back on. Of course you have to export the subtitles to save them to do this.
Ripping the subs out as .srt and using those instead of using the softcoded subs when encoding seemed to fix the problem.
It’s frankly quite odd. Thanks all.
