SOLVED:Video encoding

August 7th, 2016

I am currently downsizing the resolution of a video from 1080p to 720p which causes the subtitles to be misaligned (from the center of the video to the bottom right hand corner). I have determined that this is related to reducing the video’s resolution, but do not know how to fix it.
Any ideas?
I am using VidCoder/Handbrake by the way.

It depends …
If your subtitles are hard coded then you’re pretty much screwed. If they are not, I would remove the subtitles (export them for later), encode the video, and then add the subtitles back to the newly encoded video.
Answer #2
But it is more likely that they are hardcoded.
Anyway, why do you want to change the resolution to 720p.
Answer #3
They are soft coded, which is why I find it odd
Could it be possible that the subtitles are programmed to be aligned to only a specific resolution?
Answer #4
That’s why I would take them out and re-add them.
Vidcoder probably has kept their relative position on the recode rather than resetting them.
It’s easy enough to readd without recoding again. Just use xmedia recode; change the settings to video copy / audio copy / unclick the subtitles to get a subtitle free video. Use the result to add the subtitles back on. Of course you have to export the subtitles to save them to do this.
Answer #5
Ripping the subs out as .srt and using those instead of using the softcoded subs when encoding seemed to fix the problem.
It’s frankly quite odd. Thanks all.
