Encoding and compressing video size

Hi, i had a life telecast that i recorded off the internet and the file size came up to 7gb, but now i want to reduce the file size to something smaller so i can upload it and share it with people, what program can i use that would help me do that without loosing too much quality.

I’d use DivX converter, but it depends on what file type you are trying to convert.
Divx can be a real shite.. lol

Yeah, it depends on format.
I would use Handbrake or Freemake video converter.

I wanted to say, same as on what format you want to convert it…….anyway, any program supports .mpg as input file as I know or almost any.
Now, on what format you want because with Handbrake you can convert to mp4 and mkv where with Freemake you can to AVI, WMV, MP4, MPEG, MKV, FLV, SWF, 3GP etc.
