wireless hacking – what can it do to me anyway?

January 21st, 2020

OK, so I know people can get my wireless network password, but then what? even if someone would hack his way into my network, what can he use it for exactly? can he get into my computer or anything like that?
Answer #1
Possibly depends on their level of expertise , if you use wpa or wpa 2 it will take them quite a while to break in, just change ur password regularly.
Answer #2
yeah but why question is – why? I mean, what are the possibilities for them once they broke in? if all they can do is use my connection to surf the web or something like that, why should I worry about it?
Answer #3
access your hard drives if any are shared. or change the password so you can’t use the wifi. or just suck up all your bandwith.
Answer #4
Not to mention accessing illegal content on ur ip? then ur royaly shafted if johny lawmaker comes to visit you. ….. theres a reason to worry…
Answer #5
they could you tools like wireshark, ettercap to sniff all your traffic, capture all your passwords, redirect you to phishing sites, etc
So if your router is using WPA2 I would set a password longer than 15 digits, that includes numbers, symbols and letters then you don’t have to worry about it.
Answer #6
depending on how clever they are (and how stupid you are), they can do anything from accessing all of the files on all of your computers, downloading things with your internet connection (which, if they are illegil, you are liable to be arrested for) and could lock you out of your own network
Answer #7
could lock you out of your own network
That is easily fixed with a router reset. I wouldn’t worry too much about people breaking your wireless. Someone would really have to hate you to spend the hours to days to break your password (WPA or course).
Also just be conscious of whats on your shared folders, and if you don’t need shared folders turn them off. If you think someone broke it and you are noticing clogged bandwidth on your network, then either consider checking your routers logs (which you should enable if you haven’t already) or change your password on a regular basis (kinda a pain in the arse if you have many wireless modules).
Be more concerned with your neighbors than anything. Because if someone sat outside your house with a van or something hopefully you would do the smart thing and call the cops. So if your neighbors are computer geek ~ censored ~ bags, then I would be slightly concerned.
Answer #8
Have a password/WEP key 26 digits/mac address filter. But yeah most people who try and access unsecure networks is for free internet, or something crime based.
Answer #9
Have a password/WEP key 26 digits/mac address filter.
breakable in 15 minutes
Answer #10
You should use WPA2 with a long password. You can also spoof your mac address so mac address filtering really wouldn’t help.
Answer #11
Its not what they can access on your network that you should worry about. Its what someone could do by hacking someone else from your connection and make it look like you did it.
Answer #12
if i were you i would just have akey that you have to transfer to a junp drive and then install the key on every computer id say thats the safest thing to do.
Answer #13

breakable in 15 minutes

with a lot of expertise and the right equipment…
For most people this isn’t so…
