WinRAR and zip file

here’s my problem i think i’m having…
i want to download WinRAR and it’s a zip file
i want to download WinZip and it’s a RAR file…
zip is a rar and rar is a zip…i am lost….please help this noobie

.zip and .rar are similar, but not the same. Windows can extract .zip files natively, without third party software like WinZip. WinRar can extract most compressed archive types. You won’t need WinZip.
