Disable file indexing. Double-click My Computer, right-click on the C: Drive, select Properties. Uncheck “Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching.” Next, apply changes to “C: subfolders and files,” and click OK. If a warning or error message appears (such as “Access is denied”), click the Ignore All button.
Adjust XP for best performance. Right Click on My Computer. Select Properties. Click on the Advanced Tab. Under the Performance Group Box, click on Settings Select Adjust for best performance. Click OK
Those two things should increase speed and performance significantly.
Well you are right Astray but for an old computer it’s probable just best to leave ’98 or whatever on it.
