Win7 – can’t connect to internet via wired…

My ISP is bigpond, and i have a wireless router that connects to my 2WIRE 2071-A modem. Now, the wireless seems to connect to the internet fine.. but the wired connection via the modem does not (on the windows 7 desktop). even after i reformatted my harddrive and installed win7 the internet connection worked fine.. but now it doesn’t connect. I ran a test too see why and it says it is their is no direct cable connection (through the ethernet) but it is connected fine. i power cycled both the router and modem but still no change please help ty

well check if the 2wire is showing that you PC is connected and has a ip address. Also check the back of the 2wire/pc and see if you get the orange and green blinking lights? and if you want to get technical open a command prompt and type “ipconfig /all” without quotes and see if you are getting a ip address

Check if the cable is fine. (Test it out on another PC).
If the cable is fine, check the back of your comp and see if there’s any LED activity. If there’s no activity it’s a high chance that the Network Card is broken.

what do you mean by LED

(LED=Light Emitting Diode). In simple terms: Are there any lights blinking where the cable is plugged in. (Either orange or green, or both)

it is a solid green where the ethernet cord is plugged in
