Do I need a router to connect my PS3 to the internet?
October 23rd, 2013
you can but then your pc won’t be connected to the internet anymore
When I want to connect my PC to the Internet I can just plug the Ethernet cable back to my PC’s modem. However, it would be more convenient to have my PC and PS3 connected to the Internet.

then you would be disconnecting and reconnecting and disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly

if you want to both to be connected then you would need a router and it is recommend to use a router by sony playstation to make it more secure
a 4 port switch these days are cheap as chips
you can get a cheap router if you look around.
beats changing Ethernet cable every time.

I use a D-Link ADSL2+ router, works like a charm and I’ve got lots of stuff connected to it.
They are fairly affordable.
You get the idea, a router is fairly good.
Wireless ones are optional, I’d just avoid Linksys’s old models.
The bold part is bullocks.
You can get a second hand Netgear modem/router on E-bay for about £5 – 10, something like that would give you wireless capability as well. There is usually 3rd party firmware for these which enables many more options such as QoS.
