ANY ADVICE MOST WELCOME.
windows 7 x64 amd catalyst
i use k-lite mega codec pack + media player classic
media player classic plus vlc will play all.

MPC uses the k-lite codec pack for codecs, its probably the best option.

VLC is the other good option. It uses all its own internal codecs, so its self contained.
Plus its more than just a media player, its has quite a few features most ppl don’t know about.
PotPlayer is a good “play all” right out of the box player
Zoom Player if you like more control
and skip all the code packs and just install ffdshow

2nd for VLC. seems to play just about everything i’ve thrown at it without bloating with codec packs. It also comes in Zip format so no need to worry about windows installer garbage.

MPC uses “any” codec you have installed and is offered as a bundle with K-Lite Codec Pack.andy1033 replied: media player classic

You can also install MPC on it’s own and ffdshow/ffmpeg as codec pack or not any codec pack and every codec by its own like MPC.
Just to clarify.

Maybe you need to explain what do you mean by “best”
¿Something that plays anything? (xnview)
¿Something that is light?
¿Something that is stable?
¿Something that has fancy eyecandy?
¿Something with a simple control panel?
¿Something with a very complex control panel?
In my opinion (and i know noone asked it), there is no “best” at anything if you don’t have a score table or scoring competition of any kind. And even tho you get relative results.
If you are maybe asking for an opinion, then i think K-Lite + MPC gives a nice combination of simplicity and compatibility wich you can find with VLC too.
If you plan to listen music using the same player, then Winamp (don’t know if AIMP plays video) makes an incredible player/library/playlist combination.
Good luck
Daum Pot Player. It provides almost every codec and is a light weight program. I highly recommend it!

what i use is winamp for music ( it has got built in internet radio with lots of stations )
and for video BS player ( RULES! especially with his free subtitles for movies in any language in just a couple of clicks )
