What to use to desolder power jack from laptop.?

August 5th, 2016

I been going around store to store but can not find something to remove the solder. I can not buy it off line because I need it done today. If someone can be kind enough to tell me what else I can use beside solder removal braids or solder suckers.
Like something I can make from everyday house holds.
I try aluminum foil but that didn’t work at all.
Please help me This Is an Emergency!!
Thanks

You better be careful, otherwise you could melt something important. Some components can be destroyed by too much heat. Even the PCB could be damaged, the PCB tracks can come off the PCB. A proper solder sucker is the only reliable way of doing it.
Answer #2
There is 2 way of removing soldier..The sucker as you mentioned and a disoldier wire…
Answer #3
i cant find those anywhere in the store.
Answer #4
You will probably only find such a thing in an electronics store or online. They are not expensive though.

unless your an experensed solderer i wouldnt try to desolder something on a factory made board, they are very delecate and arnt designed to be desoldered. ive been soldering for ~4 years and i wouldnt even try to solder/desolder something on a manifactured board. the human hand just isnt stedy enough or precise enough

He is talking about a power jack and not a tiny component so it would not be as difficult as you seem to think. It it was a tiny resistor or IC then it would be a problem but something as big as a power jack can have a fairly large area of circuit board to work on. It all depends on the area. I have soldered SM Caps on a Video card without a problem as they were fairly clear of other components.

i solder all the time but i dont have anything to desolder
cuz i replacing something with something new
i can do this i just need something to desolder it first
Answer #8
If you solder all the time, why don’t you have a de-solder tool?
Answer #9
i assume you have a soldering iron…. other than the the best thing is to get a sucker…. which im sure you could buy at a jankos or soem such electronic store
Answer #10
i never desolder
but i solder long story
so anyone can answer??
Answer #11
try clamping (or a wire wrap) a 1″ screw to your soldering iron
use that as the tip and see if it “climbs” the screw
hold the board on it’s side or upside down to get gravities help
drop a bead of solder on something to test it
nope never tried this myself
Answer #12
hold the board on it's side or upside down to get gravities help
omg why didnt i think of this
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Answer #13
It is unlikely to work due to the suction effect.
With all the time you have spent in this thread you could of ordered a desolder tool and done it by now.
As I already mentioned you are going to damage the circuit board if you continually heat the tracks.
Answer #14
yea i just order it lol
the braids
is the sucker better??
Answer #15
A solder sucker is the better option IMO, far more useful.
Look for one with a plunger and release button rather than a squeeze bulb variety as they are cheap nasty things.
