Everyone post such wonderful things but I cannot get it to work..
Thank you for your time Mork
How are you burning them to dvd, as dvd files or data files. Not all dvd players can read data files. So you’ll need something like convertxtodvd or freemake converter.
Does the TV recognise your USB? Perhaps the filesystem is NTFS instead of FAT32?
If the USB is shown in a list, do you see the files that you have placed? Perhaps your TV cannot play mkv files or avi? Can you provide us the model of your tv, the filesystem in which you formatted the usb and the file extension of your movies?
what is the filename extension of the movie you downloaded ?
DVD players will only play .avi files that are made with Divx or Xvid (normally).
They don’t do .mkv or .mp4(normally) and they don’t do HD stuff..
You could convert a file to .avi standard resolution using Freemake Video Converter or similar to play through your DVD player.
When downloading, look for rips that say Xvid…They should work straight off.
Or you could buy a media player….These will play most everything via USB.
Here’s an example..

It can be connected to all types of TVs, new and old.
if your dvd player is not recognizing SOME avi files -> the dimensions might be too big, mine looks at anything larger than 720×400 and shakes its head.
if your dvd player is not recogizing ALL avi files -> [shrugs]
Get a media player like the WDTV Live.
… basically. i convert all my videos/movies to winavi all in one converter ( fast and nice ) to DVD format … but it takes alot of time (depends on your system speed / pc speed ) and it gets alot of size… like 1gb.avi to 4gb.vob srrry for bad english.
^ maybe your dvd player would play the UNconverted avi files
