What do I need to make PCSX2 run well?

August 24th, 2013

So I’m thinking about getting the below CPU for my laptop to help make PCSX2 run smoother. However I am not as tech-savvy as I would like to be and do not know if it will be compatible with my laptop or it’s motherboard. Also what would you recommend for a good CPU if not the one below to make PCSX2 run well. The GPU (which is the graphics card, right?) should I upgrade that as well? I’ve grown accustomed to Nvidia, so tell which one of that brand is good for my laptop.
P.S. The new PCSX2 now takes advantage of quad cores. I would prefer quad core CPU’s.

Answer #1
Wouldn’t it be cheaper ot buy a second hand ps2 and the boot disk.
But on topic, i tried that emulator once and i had a core2duo and 8800gts card, and it worked.
Answer #2
I’d rather not. Besides making PCSX2 run smoother, i’ll also have better graphics for gaming in general. Fewer slows downs etc.
I prefer a quad core to take advantage of the new progress they made with the emulator. But the 8800gts looks good. I don’t have the money for both but which would you guys consider to be the most important? I could get at least one now and the other later.
Answer #3
For PCSX2, they say that you need a CPU that runs at 3.2GHz for every game to run at the preferred fps. I’m not very knowledgeable with gpu’s (yes, this means graphics cards) but, comparing the specs to my gpu (shader clock, core clock & memory clock), I’d say you would get only a select few games (don’t ask which ones because I wouldn’t know for sure) to run at 60FPS.
Laptops normally are not very good for gaming (unless you go for an Alienware). It might be cheaper or just as cheap to just build your own desktop PC than to update your current laptops hardware. Though you may want to ask one of these guys/gals since they are smarter than me in this area (In the hardware department that is):
SmAsHeDr, edwoodweb, Roberto400, Nel, 1xaris, Mighty_Marvel, wo_Ot? …..maybe a couple others I might have missed.
If you need any other help with emulators/PCSX2, I’m the man to ask Been emulating consoles on my PC for years.
EDIT: Forgot to add the link below. It tells you how well some hardware will work with PCSX2:
